Almost 200 sprinkler heads provide protection to BS 9251: 2014, System Category 3 in this two storey care home extension.
The purpose built dementia care unit was completed in 2016, having been built in two phases, and houses over 50 residents.
The individual sprinkler heads are unobtrusive and fitted flush to the ceiling. They look similar to large drawing pin heads, about 80mm in diameter. The heads operate independently whereby the nearest sprinkler will activate, triggered by heat from the fire. Therefore, for instance, a fire in a bedroom will only activate the sprinkler in that room. Cooking fumes and smoke from cigarettes will not activate the sprinkler system.
The system is supplied from a dedicated sectional sprinkler water storage tank, with a vertical mounted booster pump and controls located within the ground floor plant area.
Chirk Court is managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, a member of the Pennaf Housing Group, and an established provider of specialist care accommodation and services.
