Ann Jones, Welsh Assembly Member, has been awarded the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) James M Shannon Advocacy Medal for her lifelong work in bringing fire sprinklers to the Welsh legislature.
Ann had more than 30 years experience in fire control rooms in North Wales and Merseyside until her election to the Welsh Assembly in 1999.
She has since worked tireless to win cross-party support, resulting in Wales being the first country to pass nationwide requirements for fire sprinkler protection. In brief, fire suppression is now mandatory in new dwellings in Wales, with approximately 18,000 new build properties per year in need of fire sprinkler protection. Ecotect has much experience of individual homes and care home fire sprinkler design and installation, and has also seen first hand the work Ann has put in to achieve her ground-breaking success.
